Our School
Welcome to Ysgol Trefonnen which is based in Llandrindod Wells, Powys.
Ysgol Trefonnen is an inspiring, nurturing and creative school that makes learning fun for all.
Our vision was created with input from pupils, parents/carers, teachers, staff governors and the community of Ysgol Trefonnen and is reviewed annually. It brings to together how we feel about our school and what we aim to achieve. To help deliver on this vision, we have four mission statements:
- Ambitious and Capable Learners – Learners are ready to extend their knowledge and skills, communicate effectively and problem solve in a range of contexts.
- Enterprising and Creative Contributors – Learners are ready to express their creativity, embrace challenge and develop entrepreneurial skills through independent and collaborative work.
- Ethical and Informed Citizens – Learners are ready to respect themselves & others, and understand their responsibility to their community, sustainability and the planet.
- Healthy and Confident Individuals – Learners are ready to establish & maintain meaningful relationships and make healthy decisions that positively impact their physical and mental wellbeing.
Every year we agree actions that we will take to help deliver this vision through the mission statements, these are circulated to parents and stakeholders and we also ask how well we did last year to monitor progress. All polices and work delivered at Ysgol Trefonnen is underpinned by this vision and the ethos statements.
Ysgol Trefonnen is a dual stream, community focused church in Wales school for children aged 4-11 years; some of our children learn entirely through the medium of Welsh and some through English. However, all our pupils share the common experience of living and learning in Wales. Within the school building, we have seven classrooms, a parent and toddler group, a Ti a Fi (a bilingual mother and toddler group), a pre-school Early Years group (English medium) and a Cylch Meithrin (Welsh medium pre-school group).

We promote opportunities for all our children to celebrate their Welsh culture, heritage and language through occasions such as St. David’s Day events and competing in Eisteddfodau. While children in the Welsh stream learn mainly through the medium of Welsh, children in the English stream also benefit from learning Welsh as a second language through reading, writing, speaking and hearing Welsh around the school. Welsh is endorsed through assemblies, clubs and in letters that are sent home. Children in the Welsh stream can continue to study through the medium of Welsh in Year 7 at Builth High School.
As a school, we have strong links with our local church and its leaders who make a positive impact in advancing the Christian ethos of the school. We are very proud of our school and its happy, relaxed and purposeful atmosphere. We provide a warm, safe and stimulating environment in which we aim to bring out the best in every child.
